We booked 2 Delta tickets from CHS thru ATL, connecting to ROC in April for a June 23 trip, and an Alamo rental car for 4 days, then returning. it was my folks' 50th anniversary. We purchased an $83 flight insurance plan. About 4 hours before we were due to leave for the airport at 3:30 AM, a water pipe connection under our kitchen sink let loose. While we were fortunate to be home, albeit asleep, and to have a great wet-dry vac unit on hand, it still took us most of the next 4-6 hours to clean up, wiping out any chance of making the flight. We did not need to get our hair-trigger home insurance involved, it just took time to clean up. We got on the road around 8 AM and drove the 900 miles, had a great time anyway. Well, the Alamo car people were useless - their position was that since the car was "tied up" they couldn't release it & therefore lost income. The insurance didn't cover that. Perhaps we should've been on our phones all the way up I-95 to catch them and C/T earlier, but we were beat & frankly didn't want to deal with it while driving. A week later, after numerous calls and roundy-round, I filed a claim with AON, Cheap Tickets' Insurance conglomerate. By then, to Delta's credit, they had credited back our upgraded seats, baggage fees and departure tickets for the flights going up - classy & considerate.

AON, on the other hand, finally responded in late July, stating that they were "sorry to hear about your home water casualty" but that the policy requires that the Homeowner Insurance be notified of the problem, and then complete a summary of actions taken form (?) back to them, in order for a reimbursement to be issued.

So.... basically we were denied because we handled the casualty ourselves & didn't get the hornet's nest stirred up - which didn't meet the fine print requirements. Nice, AON. Easy denial. You all earn our "NEVER USING CHEAP TICKETS AGAIN E V E R" seal.

Same with Alamo -blow. Good thing there's reasonability at Delta!!

3 cheers :-)
